Don’t wait for the holidays to come knocking on your door – plan your holiday ad campaigns early and lend it enough flexibility to accommodate shifts in online consumer behavior. Take a hint from last year’s online holiday spending statistics.

Online consumer spending rose 12% from 2009 to $32.6 billion in 2010, and it’s expected to rise even further this year. Last year, 4 out of 5 days where paid conversion rates were at their highest were in November. The search for holiday gifts will start early again this year – perhaps even earlier than previous years.

So plan out your campaign and remember to watch your inventory, schedule bid boosts, and go mobile this coming holiday season.

Watch the Inventory

Manage your keyword bids to match your item inventory. While your business infrastructure might have been spared from the worst of the economic foibles of recent years, you know that your inventories were not. Real world cost-cutting inadvertently affected how many items a merchant can have at any given period of time. This holiday season is no different.

Given that a certain item could go out of stock easily if a successful keyword campaign causes high conversion rates for it, you should keep an eye out for dwindling supplies and pause relevant keyword campaigns whenever necessary. Otherwise, you could end up spending for paid search that leads visitors to out of stock items, which of course get you no conversions.

You can expect decreased conversion rates on limited items. This means you can set up alerts whenever there are drastic conversion rate decreases which may point out telling reductions in inventory.

Schedule Bid Boosts

Anticipate spikes in online consumer spending and “boost” your keyword bids accordingly. No, you do not need to turn clairvoyant and see the future in a crystal ball. You just need to know the probabilities – and the probability that this year’s holiday trends will resemble last year’s is pretty high.

Use your revenue per click (RPC) trends in 2010 as a guide. Take note when your RPC rates increased and how much they increased. Create a schedule of bid boosts accordingly.

So if in 2010 you noticed a 10% RPC rate increase during early November, a 30% increase in late November and early December, and a 15% increase until the first few days of January, then you should pattern your keyword bids to match these expected RPC spikes this year.

Of course, after the festivities – and the RPC rate increases – are over, reset your bid levels to normal.

Go Mobile

Develop a mobile marketing strategy. The social media phenomenon is not the only trend you should take advantage of. Google estimated that as much as 44% of last-minute gift searches will be done on mobile devices – don’t miss out on the opportunity.

There are a few tricks you can use to bolster your mobile marketing strategy. For one thing, position your ads above the fold. There’s too little space on a mobile device; users should be able to see what you offer without scrolling down. Another facet of mobile Web browsing that you can take advantage of is using location extensions within ads to conveniently point shoppers to nearest store locations. The ease and convenience this offers might not mean much for planned holiday gift research, but for people doing last-minute shopping, it might be the only sales pitch you need.

A mobile strategy separate from tablet or desktop oriented campaigns is a must, especially during high-risk, high-profit holiday seasons.

Maximizing the Holiday Spirit

You already know that the busy shopping days of the coming winter holidays also usher in the busiest SEO campaigns for your business. So just match your keyword campaigns to your inventory, boost your keyword bids based on probability, and make sure you have an aggressive mobile marketing strategy, and your holiday ad campaigns will give you a truly Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Did you know that 94% of consumers research products online before buying? Or that three out of five people use search engines as a go-to shopping resource?

There is no longer any doubt that buyers go online to research and purchase products and services. Companies that have websites and market online can reap the rewards of connecting with these shoppers.

The hardest part of doing anything can be getting started, so create your game plan now to start getting the payback from marketing online. Here’s how:

Set your goal-
Online marketing can do many things for your business. Choose one or two objectives for starters. For example, do you want to drive visitors to your website, generate more foot traffic to your store or restaurant, or gather emails for a newsletter?

Identify your target-

Be clear about the buyers you want to reach. What do they care about most? What are their problems? Are they currently buying from a competitor? Also consider their gender, hobbies, location and other specifics; these can all help you determine the best ways to reach them, as well as the messages that will work best.

Learn about current customers-

If you have a website, ask your current customers how they found it. if not, ask them where they go online. This insight can help you focus your efforts.

Check out competitors-

Just because a competitor is doing it doesn’t mean it works – but it might. Reviewing what your competition is doing can help you create your own unique approach.

Set a Strategy-

Taking time to think through your plan before you begin can dramatically improve your results. Choose one or two tactics that work within your budget, make sense for your audience and that you can commit the time to manage effectively. Many successful online marketers take a “test and refine” approach to get the greatest payback.

Track your results-

Online marketing makes it easy to measure program performance; take advantage of this by closely monitoring the response to your marketing programs. Increase your investment in the programs that work well and revise components of programs that aren’t working as well as you would like to see how your programs improves.

10 Ways to Use the Internet to Grow Your Business

From affiliate marketing to online classifieds, there are many ways to build your business online. Here’s a look at ten popular online marketing options:

1. Local listings and classifieds. Create your business listing on listing sites such as Citysearch to ensure that costumers searching for nearby businesses find yours. Some listings allow you to promote offers such as sales and new products. Customer review sites are basically local directories like Yelp that allow users to express their opinions about businesses.

2. Search advertising. Search advertising is a method of placing online ads on Web pages near search engine results. With AdWords (www.google.com/adwords), you can deliver your message at the moment someone is searching for the type of product or service you offer. Choose keywords that relate as closely as possible to your offerings so you receive the most likely prospects. For CPC ads, you pay only when someone clicks on your ad.

3. Contextual ads. Contextual advertising takes display ads to the next level, by placing them on sites related to your offerings; for example, if you sell sporting goods, your ad may perform better on sports-related sites. Services are available that automatically distribute ads to sites based on the content of those sites.

4. Display ads. You’ve probably seen the dancing aliens; that’s a display, or banner, ad. Do-it-yourself display ad builders, including Google’s AdWords display ad builder (www.google.com/displaynetwork) can help design your ad. You can also distribute your display ad via ad networks and ad management systems.

5. Geotargeting. Geotargeting simply means advertising to prospects in specific locations – which could be very useful, for example, if you sell dresses only in Dallas. One way to get started is to create a listing on Google Places(http://places.google.com/business)

6. Group buying. Connect with new costumers through programs that offer multiple buyers collective purchasing deals. There are many popular group buying sites available to use.

7. Mobile marketing. Many smartphones and mobile devices provide wed browsing, GPS, cameras and video capabilities. This means you can develop creative promotions with text messages and location-based social networks.

8. Social networking sites. Cultivate new business through social networking sites where members share stories and recommend products and services.

9. Affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing lets you get other businesses to drive prospects to your website. Some affiliates may allow you to set up a store on their domains, such as comparison shopping sites.

10. Online videos. Reach new audiences by posting videos on video-sharing sites. The best videos tend to be short (less than three minutes) and have an offer, such as a free copy pf a report or product discount, to motivate viewers to take action. MobileDemand is one of many small businesses with a YouTube channel to help spread company nres and information.

Measuring Your Results

Online marketing generates a wealth of data to let you assess and refine your marketing programs. Start with there easy-to-track performance measures:

Website analytics-

Dig into your visitor data to see where your most promising leads come from. The quality of your traffic usually trumps quantity – for example, a referral site that delivers four buying costumers may be worth more than one that delivers 50 window shoppers. Google Analytics (www.google.com/analytics) is a great place to start, and it’s free.

Clickthroughs-

The basic measure of an online ad’s impact is how many people click on it to visit your site. Click through rates are often strongest with a compelling visual, message or offer, combines woth placement on the right sites.

Conversions-

How many people who see your ads “convert” into buyers or take a specific action, such as subscribing to your newsletter? Take a look at your conversion rates to help determine which outreach efforts are most cost-effective.

Phone Number Tracking-

Using a unique phone number in your ads lets you see exactly how many calls your campaign has generated. Platforms like AdWords Call Metris (www.google.com/ads/innovations/callmetrics.html) make this easy by assigning a different number to each campaign. This feature, which lets you track calls by ad and shift your spending, provides clear evidence that online marketing can lead to real leads, customers and offline success.

Landing pages-

A landing page is any page on your website where traffic is sent specifically to prompt an action. For example, you might create different landing pages for different display ads. Landing pages let you customize your message and track program performance accurately. Keep the landing page simple – if you want visitors to buy, make that the focus of the page; don’t distract them with newsletter links, webcasts, blogs, Facebook links or cute puppy videos.

Online Marketing: Something for Every Business

Online marketing success stories can sometimes leave a small business owner wondering if it would really work for them. What if you don’t have a website – can you still reach customers online? What about online-only companies? Fear not. With all the online marketing options available, one (or more) is likely to help almost any business. Here are strategies to help four particular kinds of businesses. Use them to help start or improve your online marketing efforts.

Storefrint Business-

Main Street is full of companies with a prominent storefront and no website. Gift shops, restaurants, wine stores and other storefront businesses can use an online presence to drive offline success. Try:

1. Claiming your Google Places page.

2. Promoting your business on customer review sites.

3. Creating a blog.

4. Offering incentives for location-based activities, such as visiting your store multiple times.

Local Business-

Traditional companies – plumbers, real estate agents and the like can gain loads of payoff from online marketing by making it easy for customers to find them. Try:

1. Claiming your Google Places page.

2. Submitting your site to online directories. Don’t forget any trade organizations you belong to.

3. Using social media to connect with target customers and prospects.

4. setting up a search advertising account and place a geotargeted ad.

Online Only Business-

Online retailers can spread the word about their offerings, stay connected with customers and keep traffic flowing in the virtual door with online marketing. Try:

1. Creating a blog.

2. Sending a newsletter.

3. Making a banner ad and place it on an ad network.

4. Staring an affiliate program.

Online & Offline Business-

For businesses that are online and offline – think a bed and breakfast or a toy store – the sky is the limit for attracting business and connecting the two. Try:

1. Claiming your Google Places page.

2. Collecting email addresses from physical visitors to start an e-newsletter.

3. Distributing online coupons through your website.

4. Setting up a search advertising account and place a geotargeted ad.

Before I start, I do want to say I respect a lot of people who do outsource aspects of their company to other businesses, and you can find some wonderful businesses that can do a great job. I’m writing from my individual expertise, and what has worked for my organization.

I’m a massive advocate of bringing all aspects of your on-line business in-house. It is typical wisdom that you can “save” funds by outsourcing, because you get skilled individuals working 24/7 on your organization. However, for my enterprise, outsourcing repeatedly expense far more and delivered poorer quality work.

Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising is 1 location that I strongly advocate managing internally. The tips and figures I’ll be sharing ought to be useful to little or medium size on the web corporations taking into consideration the positive aspects of bringing PPC in-house.

Just for slightly background, I initially managed the PPC advertising, together with running the rest of the business, until the campaign grew to exactly where it required 40 hours a week to be managed appropriately. I nonetheless appear in the analytics, big picture and as soon as in awhile tell the manager to change some bids but I am not the primary person running it anymore since I’ve to run the whole company. I have lots of expertise in each hiring a PPC manager and running an powerful campaign.
Expense Perception

The greatest obstacle stopping in-house PPC for most companies the perception of the expense of hiring a full time PPC manager. I have located that perception to be fairly inaccurate. When I researched salaries and costs on internet sites like glassdoor.com, and from interviewing other managers within the North East, the typical salary range turned out to be 45 to 65 thousand dollars a year.

Based on the recent SEMPO salary survey, this really is not unreasonable for an individual with 0-5 years search experience:

Salary Ranges By Encounter From SEMPO.org 2011 Survey

Now let’s put that into perspective. When I interviewed a handful of PPC firms, the typical rate was 12.5% of your total advertising budget. If your PPC advertising spending budget is near $400,000, it would work out to be the equivalent of a $50,000 yearly salary.

Even if your spending budget is higher, your PPC management costs won’t improve; it is linked to an individual salary rather than a percentage of the total price.
Time Perception

When I interviewed potential companies to take over my PPC campaign, the average time they gave me to spend managing our account, per week, is about 5 hours: for a total of 20 hours per month.

Should you hired a PPC manager full time, they’ll invest far far more time and appear a good deal deeper into optimizing your campaigns. Don’t forget an in-house associate knows the business, knows the item, and knows the customer. Outsourced PPC account managers do not know your industry or your customers the way you and your employees do.
Automation & Software Solutions

Most SEM firms tried to sell me on software that manages PPC keywords and campaigns automatically, with systematic adaptation to adjust and refine its own effectiveness over time. Most software programs that I have researched price about 3% of ad spend to 5% of ad invest.

I am now generally apprehensive about software for PPC management, since of my own recent expertise. We found, in our company, that the software could not do as well as the human interaction, when we watched the conversion rate on our website go from a very good conversion rate to a 1.5%.

It was a harsh reality, but we quickly rebounded when we stopped using the software and brought in our own individual.
The PPC Management Position

The right person for PPC management on your team does necessarily need to be an expert in PPC. I’ve discovered that it is better to have personnel with the right skills sets (strong copy writing, math, analysis, and research skills) which broadens the job pool and decreases expert leverage for salary requirements.

I have hired three individuals to do PPC management for my large campaigns. None of them had PPC expertise. There is a learning curve, of course, but it worked out better and saved money in the long run. Another thing to think about is what a PPC manager actually does. Obviously, one of the things that a PPC manager does is setup campaigns and creates ads for the campaign.

I have also discovered that when your ad spend reaches a certain threshold, representatives from Bing (Microsoft Advertising) and Google Adwords will assist you in creating your campaigns. Google was willing to help after I reached $10,000/month in ad invest, nevertheless, Bing was willing to assist regardless of my campaign size.

You’ll find no limits towards the complexity of the campaign your account representatives will assist you with, either. I worked with my Google representative to make campaigns segmenting all of my power keywords by state. All of the campaigns had different ads, keywords, and negative keywords based on the state. This would have taken me weeks to complete alone, but they were happy to do it for me and give me some trending statistics to help make decisions as well.

I must note that my representatives from Google are especially friendly, beneficial men and women; I cannot say a bad word about them. They do rotate all the time, and I’ve a new person working on my account every 6 months, but that is what you ought to expect with a giant business like Google.
Negative Keywords

Adjusting negative keywords are an important part of the PPC manager’s role. Negative keywords are one of the greatest ways to optimize the campaign, even so, they can also be very time consuming to implement. We currently run over 40 campaigns. One campaign for June spent over $15,000 generated over 8000 clicks with 3536 unique Google searches.

After sifting through the thousands of searches, we were able to create negative keywords to filter out poorer high quality traffic. Our efforts in negative keywords resulted in savings of 19% of our ad invest. Since the results are so positive, and simply because the method is so time consuming to implement, it is best done in-house.

It took my specialist 20 hours to optimize our 40 campaigns; to put that into perspective, that same amount of time would have been all of the hours an outsourced PPC business would spend on your campaign.
Power Keywords

If you manage a large campaign, you have probably noticed that despite having thousands of keywords, less than 5% of them convert consistently. These few strong performing keywords are sometimes referred to as power keywords.

In my encounter at our firm, many of my keywords convert, but only about 10 to 15 keywords have a lot more than 10 to 15 conversions per day. Those few power keywords seemed to be 65 to 80% of the total cost of all campaigns.

I surveyed other SEM professionals in my local area, and found that they had experienced the same trend. This begs the question: does an outsourced PPC manager only manage ten keywords?

My advice to those outsourcing their PPC would be to identify and remove the ten power keywords from their outsourced PPC management: at 65-80% of the total expense of your campaigns, as this could save you plenty of money.

I would also recommend removing all of the branded keywords in your campaign from their management. (Branded keywords are terms that include your firm name or your product names.) These, of course, are going to have a very high conversion rate, and these are easy wins for any PPC business, and not a true measure of their skill or performance.
Caution: Content Networks & Mobile Buyers

Mobile users are notoriously poorer converters than their on-PC counterparts, and if you’re not prepared with a good mobile expertise, you had better be prepared to waste ad invest on mobile users. One of the hard lessons I have learned about PPC is that if you don’t have time to do PPC in-house, then you don’t have time to make a mobile site.

A mobile site is a totally different encounter than a website and, in my encounter, has different goals and different things that can go wrong. Make sure you make different campaigns for your mobile site than your regular site, or turn it off all together. It will save you income within the long run, and when you are prepared with a mobile site, then you really should try it.

To say I am not a fan of Google’s content network is an understatement. I’ve never wasted so much cash in my life on the content network.

While at a conference, I cornered my Google representative and asked his take on the content network, and its effectiveness. His take was that content network is wonderful for branding, converts very poorly for sales. I’m sure that with the right strategy (probably with branding goals) you’ll be able to find success with content networks, but everyone I’ve surveyed has had a similar encounter to mine.

If your PPC agency is steering you towards advertising on content networks, make sure that they have demonstrated success in this location and have a specific, thoroughly vetted strategy for your campaign.
Beginning Step: Exact Match

Should you are apprehensive about running a PPC campaign yourself, or are perhaps just starting out, begin with using the exact match term in Google Adwords. To do exact match, put brackets [ ] around a keyword in your Adwords account.

Google explains exact match as “Allows your ad to show for searches that match the exact phrase exclusively.”

Using exact match to start with will reduce the amount of negative keywords you have to work through, and make it easier to find your power keywords. Note that even when you use exact match, Google will still often times use unrelated keywords, so be sure to take a good look at your campaigns and filter out any irrelevant terms as they come up.

Ultimately, the decision to bring your SEM in-house should weigh all the costs and benefits to your specific situation. Hopefully some of the anecdotes and experiences I’ve shared will help you make that decision for your firm.

While I always advocate managing all aspects of your company internally, that doesn’t mean that it is the best solution for everyone. Be cautious and thorough in the event you decide to outsource your PPC, and always keep in mind that you know (and care) far more about your company and your clients than any hired firm will.

Dallas video production and distribution is less difficult said than completed. To prove this point, so many creative wannabes join the fray on a frequency which is beginning to be alarming. Call it maybe like some sort of stampede triggered by the economic recession, these people appear to believe that going into the video company may be the holy grail that may be their claim to fame also as their bread and butter. This can not be further from the truth for it would take a fantastic deal of time and preparation to get oneself setup in this company, let alone succeed in it. Although getting taken up film in school assists, it really is not necessarily a passport to succeeding in Dallas video production and distribution.

Getting an artist whether or not of the natural-born or learned assortment likewise assists, but then again it does not guarantee good results. The creative eye is undoubtedly required inside the video production organization, but inside the long run, getting the entrepreneurial flair to back it up would be even far better. This presents a genuine dilemma for genuine artists and specially arts for arts’ sake people. At some point in time, these dreamers require to break out from the mold and see the endeavor as running a organization, not an experiment in futility or one thing which will get oneself bankrupt ultimately.

The truth is everybody has a dream. For example, prior to essentially the most profitable filmmaker of all time James Cameron (Titanic, Avatar) hit the ground solid, he also had to go via the process of making a living from a great many odd jobs like most everybody else. This illustrates that although it is great to dream, it also helps to be a realist. The book The 50th Law, a collaboration in between common non-fiction author Robert Greene and successful hip-hop music mogul 50 Cent, could be the first to tell that even though most triumphant realists start off out as getting dreamers, the path that they pick to understand their dreams was riddled with realism. A fine example is former Common Electric CEO Jack Welch, who championed the cause, claiming that only by facing reality can 1 ever hope to control destiny.

Therefore, keeping one’s feet on the ground whilst dreaming big will be the very best strategy to make a distinction inside the burgeoning Dallas video production and distribution infrastructure. Some key players inside the company like Agora Entertainment aim to restore the lost splendor of Texas as the film capital of the world right after Los Angeles stole the crown like the proverbial fire from heaven. No doubt, Dallas in specific has the resources and also the political will to create the dream come accurate, but only time will tell. Spaghetti Westerns could possibly be the ticket that could assist the state of Texas acquire a foothold in the film business. Once again, nevertheless, this is easier stated than carried out. It truly is only by facing existing realities can a city like Dallas hope to do battle with almighty Hollywood, which is merely one of the biggest economies in the world. It really is such a massive giant to slay, but by daring to dream even though staying practical, can there ever be a chance of victory in the horizon.
