Choosing A Topic For Your Niche Site

This is the starting point of how well you are going to do with your niche site that you are creating. This is the time to make sure that you are choosing the correct niche for you.

Over the next 5 weeks we will be helping you choose what topic you are going to use the build your new niche site.

This week is finding a topic just for you.  Oxford dictionary says that there is over 171,000+ words in the English language. With that many chooses you need to make the right one for you.

There are some topics to avoid when starting out. They will look easy the rank for, look like big money makers, and look to good to be true. These three topics are weight-loss, make money, and  brand names.  These three topics have high profits if you can rank number one for a specific keyword. The hard part is the look really good. The bad part is every make money online site tells everyone that these are very profitable. Every online marketer has a site trying to rank in one of those three topics.  So these seem to have all the key factors that we will soon discuss but with thousands of other marketers trying to rank for them too.

The best way the find a great niche is to look for topics the you personally are interested in. Look for things in your life that you can easily relate too. For example some of the things I like are reptiles, mmorp games, and camping. Do some soul searching and come up with 7 different topics that you enjoy.

Here are my 7:

  • Reptile
  • Mmorpg
  • Camping
  • Hair straightener
  • Church
  • Small business
  • Computers

Now that we have our 7 main keywords, we need to come up with some related words for each one. This will help as we build our keyword list next week. I personally try to get 5 – 10 closely related keywords for each of your 7 topics that you choose earlier. This may require some work on your part. Here is an example of one of mine.

Camping

  • Tents
  • Sleeping bags
  • Camp fire
  • Camping cookware
  • Hunting
  • Fishing
  • Camping songs

Notice all the keywords take you back to the main keyword. If you are having some problems coming up with related keywords Google has a great tool to help you out call Wonder Wheel. You can use this to help you find some related searches.

Ok here is your homework for this week. If you have any questions please leave comments below.

Goals for this week:

  • Find 7 topics that interest you
  • Find 5 – 10 related keywords for those topics
